Literal Industry and Entertainment Industry, which should more attention be given
This write-up
would seek to give my opinion as to whether the literal or entertainment should
be given more attention. In the context of this essay, the literal industry
encompasses the sector of the economy that deals with written works such as novels,
poems and books generally, while the
entertainment industry deals with that which caters for the music, films and
the like.
In my
opinion the literal Industry though budding in Nigeria deserves more attention.
My reasons for this conclusion are stated below.
Unlike her entertainment counterpart, the
literal Industry has greater positive impact on the young ones and mature folks
alike. It broadens knowledge, improves language skills, improves creativity
among numerous benefits.
Also, there
is no occurrence of having success without creativity which is commonplace in
the entertainment Industry where youths with good beats and debased, empty
lyrics are celebrated all the same, where uninteresting and predictable movies
with no positive lessons to impart rack up profit all the same. The crème de la
crème only really make it in the literal industry not only because we have a
poor reading culture these days, but also because their works has to have a
strong, meaningful message to captivate the general public.
This definitely
doesn’t in any way imply that the entertainment industry is totally without
real talent or positive messages which can have impact but compared to the
literary Industry, it has a long way to go in that regard.
The
entertainment industry in Nigeria in my opinion has been explored to virtually
its full potential while the literary industry has been given almost no
attention. It is still fresh in mind that the president not too long injected 3
billion naira into the entertainment industry. No records of any special fund
of similar nature being donated to encourage those who are into literary
industry is available. There are lots of works of young men and women lying in
some shelf if not already destroyed thanks to the disheartening attitude of the
government and people in general.
We have
strong reasons therefore to conclude that more attention be given to the less
developed and more promising Literary industry to foster a generation of more
informed and leadership-oriented generation among other benefits.
