Literal Industry and Entertainment Industry, which should more attention be given

This write-up would seek to give my opinion as to whether the literal or entertainment should be given more attention. In the context of this essay, the literal industry encompasses the sector of the economy that deals with written works such as novels, poems and books generally,  while the entertainment industry deals with that which caters for the music, films and the like.
In my opinion the literal Industry though budding in Nigeria deserves more attention. My reasons for this conclusion are stated below.
Unlike her entertainment counterpart, the literal Industry has greater positive impact on the young ones and mature folks alike. It broadens knowledge, improves language skills, improves creativity among numerous benefits.
Also, there is no occurrence of having success without creativity which is commonplace in the entertainment Industry where youths with good beats and debased, empty lyrics are celebrated all the same, where uninteresting and predictable movies with no positive lessons to impart rack up profit all the same. The crème de la crème only really make it in the literal industry not only because we have a poor reading culture these days, but also because their works has to have a strong, meaningful message to captivate the general public.
This definitely doesn’t in any way imply that the entertainment industry is totally without real talent or positive messages which can have impact but compared to the literary Industry, it has a long way to go in that regard.
The entertainment industry in Nigeria in my opinion has been explored to virtually its full potential while the literary industry has been given almost no attention. It is still fresh in mind that the president not too long injected 3 billion naira into the entertainment industry. No records of any special fund of similar nature being donated to encourage those who are into literary industry is available. There are lots of works of young men and women lying in some shelf if not already destroyed thanks to the disheartening attitude of the government and people in general.
We have strong reasons therefore to conclude that more attention be given to the less developed and more promising Literary industry to foster a generation of more informed and leadership-oriented generation among other benefits.

Story; Second chance

I do mainly essays but i just sent in this story to test my skills..Hopefully the magazine would like it..
....

Far away from home, he sat under a tree, thinking where he went wrong. When everybody seemed to be telling of their grass to grace story his had been the opposite. ‘O gini ka m me’ he said in his English-laced Igbo..
Just a year back, life had seemed a fairy-tale, his father’s favourite, just 15 and he had gained admission into the famous UNILAG, he wasn’t a cultist, his first year result wasn’t too bad either; a 3.07 CGPA. Then things started to fall, like dominos. He lost a huge sum thanks to hackers, had his documents stolen by his kleptomaniac roommate. Now 18 he had to drop out.
Things looked bad; how would he break this news to his parents who pride themselves by telling friends of how ‘’kelechi is just 18 and in 300 level’’ .The very thought turned his intestines. Only logical thing to do at this point to him was to end it all. Trying to muster enough courage, he looked at the rope in his hand. His mum, she would run mad at news of his death; he knew it. As much as they fought, only a fool won’t see how concerned she gets whenever he travels. Just late last year she waved him bye as he sat in the bus to school and was shocked to see her shed a tears; his mum? He smiled but sobbed when the bus moved.
Not like the bottle of Smirnoff in his hand was doing much either. With disgust he threw the half empty bottle. He felt hazy as he had just drained 4 bottles in the last 1 hour. ‘’I just have to end this’’ he repeated.
Somehow he reflected on society at large; comedians amuse people but have no reason to laugh, musicians sing about love but have messy love lives, a bank teller counts million but can’t afford to buy cerelac for his new born but would rather prefer ogi to cut costs.
Satisfaction after all doesn’t come from a Job, money or what one owned. It somehow struck him that with or without that university he would still make it. Everyone including himself knew he had potential. Like T.I said ‘’And when they push you down you gotta get back up…’’ . He had to rise above his problems and move on. Throwing the rope, he made for the express

Unilag student wins world muslim beauty pageant.

The newly crowned the Muslimah World 2013 Obabiyi Aishah Ajibola (C) A Nigerian woman tearfully prayed and recited Koranic verses as she won a beauty pageant exclusively for Muslim women in the Indonesian capital Wednesday, a riposte to the Miss World contest that has sparked hardline anger. The 20 finalists, who were all required to wear headscarves, put on a glittering show for the final of Muslimah World, strolling up and down a catwalk in elaborately embroidered dresses and stilettos. After a show in front of an audience of mainly religious scholars and devout Muslims, a panel of judges picked Obabiyi Aishah Ajibola from Nigeria as the winner. While the event in a Jakarta shopping mall paled in comparison to Miss World on the resort island of Bali, in which scores of contestants are competing, Ajibola was nevertheless overwhelmed. Upon hearing her name, the 21-year-old knelt down and prayed, then wept as she recited a Koranic verse. She said it was “thanks to almighty Allah” that she had won the contest. She received 25 million rupiah ($2,200) and trips to Mecca and India as prizes. Ajibola told AFP before the final that the event “was not really about competition”. “We’re just trying to show the world that Islam is beautiful,” she said. Organisers said the pageant challenged the idea of beauty put forward by the British-run Miss World pageant, and also showed that opposition to the event could be expressed non-violently. Eka Shanti, who founded the pageant three years ago after losing her job as a TV news anchor for refusing to remove her headscarf, bills the contest as “Islam’s answer to Miss World”. “This year we deliberately held our event just before the Miss World final to show that there are alternative role models for Muslim women,” she told AFP. “But it’s about more than Miss World. Muslim women are increasingly working in the entertainment industry in a sexually explicit way, and they become role models, which is a concern.” Hosted by Dewi Sandra, an Indonesian actress and pop star who recently hung up her racy dresses for a headscarf, the pageant featured both Muslim and pop music performances, including one about modesty, a trait the judges sought in the winner. The pageant, which also featured bright Indonesian Islamic designer wear, is a starkly different way of protesting Miss World than the approach taken by Islamic radicals.
